Hi Rick;

Thank you for this helpful post. It's excellent.

As someone who uses Scripture a lot in my Tweets, I've come up with a couple of tricks you haven't mentioned.

One can avoid every one of the problems that you outline by simply Tweeting a comment that bears on or otherwise reflects the Scripture or which a Scripture reinforces.

You can, then, add the Bible reference using one of the URL shortening programs. I prefer is.gd because it never lets me down. You'll see some examples of this on my @EaglesFlightOne account at http://is.gd/1I4WN.

Alternatively, one can set up a FriendFeed (FF) account to forward posts to a Twitter account of choice, as needed, by simply clicking a box. FF will truncate your Post to fit and draw people to it with a shortened URL. You can see numerous examples of this approach at my FF account at http://is.gd/1I5cy.

Hopefully, you and your readers will find these techniques helpful. They're fun to use and look better to others.

Blessings all!

Rick, this is a cool article. I have never used this twitter language, but I think I will try it more. Thanks for the great ideas. I love how twitter is in the Bible.

Great addition Rob! Linking to online Bibles is especially useful as backup for your own Biblical commentary. Also, as one of my other followers pointed out, we should always consider context. If the intended meaning of the verse is not clear from tweeting the verse alone, then it would be better to link to an online Bible so that the context and meaning can be clearly communicated.

Great point Rod! Unless you have a twitter account that is all about Bible verses and peeps have signed on for that, Bible verses are best interspersed with regular updates and Twitter conversation.

Thank you for your comment Tami! I hope you didn't mind my comment about Bible Publishers probably preferring a shorter copyright notice to none at all. : )

Tanya, I agree! We should never leave words out and/or self-paraphrase. Any shortcut considered must maintain the accuracy and readability of God's Word. Thank you for that addition!

Thanks so much for the ideas and the effort you've put into sharing the Word online. One challenge I see, in addition to the brief reminders posted from other comments, is potentially leaving out words to abbreviate which could result in misinterpretation. I do like the suggestion of pointing back to online versions (e.g. BibleGateway). Thanks again!
